As the non-profit caretaker of New York’s beloved High Line park, Friends of the High Line is fostering a strong community and neighborhood

The MISSION of Friends of the High Line is to maintain the High Line as an extraordinary public space for all visitors, and to engage the vibrant and diverse community on and around the park. In addition to overseeing park maintenance, operations, and a wide variety of public programs, Friends of the High Line raises nearly 100% of the park’s annual operating budget from philanthropic supporters, local businesses, and more.

Why is it important?

The High Line draws nearly 8 million visitors a year and continues to inspire similar kinds of infrastructure reuse projects in cities around the world. Not only does Friends of the High Line raise nearly 100% of the High Line’s annual budget, but the organization is largely credited with saving the abandoned elevated rail track and helping to revitalize the West Side of Manhattan.

How do they do it?

Through the support of dedicated volunteers and staff, community members, and partners, Friends of the High Line is able to ensure the High Line remains a sustainable, clean, and world-class public space 365 days a year – free of charge.
