Grow a community of ocean changemakers with a passion for conservation, exploration and science. 

 

Why is it important?

Bleu (Building a Life of Underwater Exploration) World builds a vibrant community of ocean changemakers on Catalina Island by fostering collaboration among conservationists, explorers, and scientists who share a passion for protecting marine ecosystems. This network, otherwise known as the Bleu World Collaborative, will provide opportunities in ocean education, ocean science, and ocean conservation to people from all walks of life with a special focus on programs for children, underrepresented and diverse communities, and students in the environmental sector. With fundraising efforts, Bleu World also aims to reduce or eliminate most of the costs for in-ocean experiences making ocean appreciation and conservation more accessible. 

How do they do it?

Through hands-on programs beginning with education, from youth programs to advanced scientific research, Bleu World creates an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds to contribute to ocean conservation efforts on Catalina Island. To foster understanding Bleu World hosts workshops, research expeditions, and public outreach events, encouraging active participation from volunteers and experts alike. By offering immersive experiences in marine science and exploration, Bleu World nurtures a deep connection to the ocean and inspires collective action. Bleu World’s ultimate goal is to engage participants in marine conservation initiatives, such as habitat restoration, coral reef monitoring, and sustainable fishing practices as we face problems including, but not limited to, climate change, ocean acidification, plastic pollution, and biodiversity loss. Every experience offered by Bleu World brings ocean changemakers together to inspire positive change and preserve the ocean for future generations.

How you can #TravelKindly:

  • Book a stay at Love Catalina Island’s hotel partners, The Avalon Hotel and Zane Grey Pueblo Hotel through Kind Traveler’s Every Stay Gives Back program and while doing so, you will support Bleu World. 
  • Every month Bleu World hosts a Catalina Community Cleanup where volunteers help clean the town, beaches and hills in Avalon for a couple hours a day. By hosting regular beach, kayak & underwater cleanups, Bleu World is growing a community of conservationists through action. The upcoming schedule can be found here
  • For the adventurous, Kayak cleanups are also a fun way to get involved and help keep Catalina’s surface waters free and clean
