21 recently-redesigned guest rooms are housed in three distinct buildings tucked away under the Redwoods at the Stavrand. First, the Beldon House is the historic heart of the property, yet is far from antiquated. The house features new designer touches, including chic wallcovering, custom artwork, and upscale, modern furnishings that complement inherited antiques. Built a few decades later, the Cazadero is for nature lovers. Every guest room offers direct access to surrounding nature, and many feature some combination of gas fireplaces, freestanding soaking tubs, and outdoor cedar hot tubs with views of the open sky.

Armstrong House is the new kid on the block featuring spacious King rooms, new designer furniture, and renovated wood flooring to complement gas fireplaces and semi-private outdoor decks. Large bathrooms feature Saltillo tile showers with deep soaking tubs, and either a window or skylight to bathe in natural light throughout the day. Consistent throughout the buildings is the balance of style and rejuvenating comfort. Touches like eco-friendly bath amenities and dispensers, plush robes and slippers, lanterns to explore the grounds, pillowtop beds, lightning-fast Wi-Fi and energy-efficient AC/heating units assure you’ll be all but roughing it.

Here’s where the Stavrand earns its “home away from home” merit. The hotel’s quartet of chefs design daily menus highlighting the seasonal bounty and whatever inspiration comes to mind (even weather patterns). The Stavrand's extensive orchards and revamped culinary garden and California’s sustainably-sourced cuisine are crucial suppliers to each feast. For breakfast, start your day with a selection of local coffee and teas alongside a sweet or savory healthy breakfast prepared by the chefs. A unique three-to-five-course pre fixed dinner menu is available only to overnight guests. Luckily, Sonoma’s famed local wines get a seat at the table, too.

Choose from the 60 or 90 minute variety using top-notch, non-toxic products. Or, a rejuvenating treatment on the discreet outdoor deck under those very same swaying Redwoods (ok, mind blown). 

Let’s talk about all the relaxing and fun-filled activities that await you at the Stavrand. For starters, a pristine heated pool and hot tub are open for your soaking bliss (be sure to check out the art installation from a local metalworker on reclaimed historic Barnwood, which charts the path of the Russian River and its tributaries). The Russian River is just steps from the property if you choose to kayak through the babbling clear waters. Or, just hop on a gratis yellow bike and cruise the path to town or the river’s edge. Back at the hotel, a library in the Belden House is the perfect place for slipping away into a story, or challenging your friends to a wide array of lawn games, then setting up shop at an outdoor fireplace.
