Preventing cruelty to the animals of LA.

spcaLA’s MISSION entails dedication to the prevention of cruelty to animals through education, law enforcement, intervention, and advocacy. They hold that animals, as living creatures, have value beyond economic measurement, and are entitled to legal, moral and ethical consideration and protection.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Animal homelessness is a pervasive and constant phenomenon worldwide. Overpopulation, barriers to veterinary care, and pet behavioral issues leave animals abandoned and alone – in grave danger as a result. When public shelters are full they have no choice but to euthanize even adoptable animals to make space for those incoming. Public shelters rely on spcaLA and other private shelters or rescue groups to take in adoptable animals and keep their population low enough to avoid euthanizing.

HOW DO THEY DO IT?

Homeless dogs, cat and rabbits of Los Angeles find shelter and care at spcaLA. The organization offers various services promoting animal Kindness, including a full-service Pet Hotel and Grooming Salon, disaster response team for animals in need, Humane Education to decrease animal cruelty and interpersonal violence, and much more. The shelter provides medical care to rehabilitate its animals to the utmost ability of their ability, and of course, works to place them in permanent homes as much as possible – because all living creatures deserve to be loved.
