ABOUT
The Setting
A 45-minute flight from Bangkok into the Gulf of Thailand lands you at the rock-fringed shores of Koh Samui and Conde Nast Traveller's Reader’s Choice Number One Hotel in the World for 2018, Six Senses Samui. Set on 20 acres of sloping hills full of natural vegetation meeting sandy beach, it offers stunning panoramic views from each thatch-roof villa out to the Gulf of Thailand and outlying islands. Sure, that’s one “wow factor,” the other being Six Senses Samui’s relentless pursuit of sustainability, community engagement and environmental responsibility. For instance, their water initiative and on-site reverse osmosis process not only reduces their carbon footprint on the planet but also limits other associated pollutants from process to delivery.
Six Senses water complies with the very highest international standards of hygiene, along with filtering out microplastics. As for bringing your plastic water bottles on-property, they’re not allowed, nor is any single-use plastic. In addition, 50 percent of total water sales go to local water-related charities, benefiting the lives of the less fortunate. They conduct local beach clean-ups, fix and improve local schools, support community markets, and even plant trees. That’s five-star Kindness.
Sleep and Sanctuary
You will absolutely indulge in the rustic luxury inside (and outside) Six Senses’ 67 spacious villas, all inspired by a Thai fishing village. Villas range from one-bedroom Hideaway Villas to the sprawling two-bedroom Beach Reserve and Ocean Retreats. All but seven of the villas boast private infinity pools, however, you’re a few sandy steps away from the resort’s large infinity pool. Views are in abundance from the villas, whether gazing to the Gulf of Thailand or natural jungle vegetation. Six Senses-style luxuries such as outdoor showers, comfortable sundeck loungers, all-natural bedding with mosquito nets, and organic bath amenities will keep you pampered in entirety. Also, your own personal GEM (guest experience maker) is happily at your beck and call, should you, say, desire some island hopping on a whim.
Eat. Pray. Eat.
You're certain to be spoiled by the flavors and scenery of Six Senses Samui’s restaurants and watering holes. A continuity between each outpost is the incorporation of fresh produce from the two on-site gardens. Awarded best dining in Samui, start your arrival feast at Dining on the Rocks, Gulf of Thailand views are paired with innovative food concepts on ten terraced decks of weathered teak and bamboo. Head over to Dining on the Hill for great regional Thai, and home-cooked style dishes, matched with a large selection of wines. Imbibe poolside at Drift by the Beach or cozy up with an in-villa barbecue or choose your own venue for a memorable destination dining adventure in Samui.
