ABOUT
The Setting
From Male International Airport in the Maldives, a 35-minute seaplane journey and a 20-minute speedboat ride whisks you to the soft sands of the palm-fringed Olhuveli Island, and the 5-star Six Senses Laamu. Being the only resort in the archipelago’s southern Laamu Atoll, you’ll pretty much have tropical sea breezes, romantic sunsets and billions of stars to yourself. Live like a Kind Castaway in beachside villas or overwater bungalows surrounded by crystal waters teeming with dolphin, manta rays, rich coral reefs and deserted sandbanks. We love that Six Senses Laamu is a Fellow Member of The Long Run, a network of tourism businesses around the world using their business to drive the 4 Cs of Sustainability; Conservation, Community, Culture, and Commerce. In fact, Six Senses’ oh-so-Kind operational sustainability, support of their local community, and Maldives Underwater Initiative (MUI) team that preserves local sealife and offers educational outreach, could almost get overshadowed by the resort’s immense natural beauty. Almost.
Sleep and Sanctuary
Six Senses Laamu has 97 spacious thatched villas that range from bungalows to sprawling hideaways. All are carefully designed to harmonize with the outstanding natural beauty of the island, whether that be over turquoise water or on palm-fringed land. True to the Six Senses’ philosophy of being in harmony with the environment, the Laamu water villas are crafted from local and sustainable materials. Some of the dwellings showcase private pools, giving you the best of both worlds. Each and every villa offers guests direct access to the sea, decadent outdoor rain showers, spacious decks for lounging and stargazing and modern comforts like Bose entertainment systems, A/C, and personal bars with fresh beverages. We’ve tackled the sanctuary aspect, now for the sleep. Six Senses has brought together some of the best sleeping tools from handmade mattresses, temperature regulating pillows and duvets to organic cotton sheets. The calming night time sounds of lapping Maldivian waters are thrown in at no extra charge.
Eat. Pray. Eat.
Six Senses Laamu’s dining alternatives have been designed to take the best advantage of the island’s idyllic beauty with panoramic views and spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The over-water facility of Six Senses Laamu is home to three restaurants, an ice cream parlor, a chocolate studio and a wine cellar. Two more tropical bistros can be found on land, nestled amongst the resort's organic garden. Should you opt for the out-of-the-ordinary, a 5-course chili-centric menu at a communal table in the heart of the garden, a glass wine cellar tasting experience or a secluded sandbank barbeque may highlight your culinary itinerary. Throughout the resort, there is a wide array of options to satisfy all epicurean tastes, dietary restrictions and preferences.
