ABOUT
The Setting
Opened in 1993, Shutters on the Beach, nestled in the heart of Santa Monica Beach, has reached full-fledged icon status in Los Angeles. It’s hard to miss the striking shingled Cape Cod-style masterpiece resting on the sand, mere steps from the breakers as you bike down the beach path. This is the hotel you always want to explore. Luckily for Kind Travelers, there's a good reason to. You’ll find an ethos based on locally-sourced produce and items, guests are encouraged to shop, dine, and drink locally, and they give back to the community through the Santa Monica Bay Foundation. As far as those California dreamin’ to-do’s, roller skating or biking the beach paths, surfing, beach volleyball and yoga in the sun… that’s all there, too.
Sleep and Sanctuary
You’ll feel as though you’ve stumbled into a cottage on Cape Cod in any of Shutters on the Beach’s 198 guest rooms and suites. Find namesake white shutter doors opening to expansive terraces and balconies optimal for taking in pink California sunsets, cool Pacific breezes and the enticing lights of the Santa Monica Pier. Most feature local artwork, hand-knotted rugs, wood floors, and luxurious beds awash in imported linens. The pup-friendly dwellings range from Superior and Deluxe, Studio Kings, and Ocean Front and Ocean View rooms to expansive Santa Monica Suites and the glorious Beach House Suite. Regardless, every room here feels like you’ve been upgraded to beachside heaven.
Eat. Pray. Eat.
Find three oceanfront restaurants to welcome you with seasonal local menus and exceptional scenery. Each elegant eatery was built with the ocean views and California sunshine in mind, resulting in convivial al fresco patios and warm indoor spaces. 1 Pico Restaurant & Courtyard, Shutters’ signature restaurant, will dazzle you with the ultimate coastal culinary experience. Coast Beach Café and Bar is your hub to plan your day or wind down and regale your memories. The Living Room overlooks the beautiful big sea and offers light bites and live music every evening. Also, for beachcombers who would like to picnic on the beach or retreat for the night, the Executive Chef has prepared an enticing in-room dining and picnic menu.
