The MISSION of North Coast Land Conservatory (NCLC) is helping to conserve Oregon’s coastal lands and waters, forever, further supporting their vision of a fully functioning landscape where healthy communities of people, plants and wildlife all thrive.
Why is it important?
North Coast Land Conservancy is a nationally accredited, nonprofit land trust dedicated to safeguarding Oregon’s coastal land and seascapes. North Coast Land Conservancy has been working since 1986 to conserve and connect the landscape of the Oregon Coast, from the Columbia River to northern Lincoln County, by acquiring or otherwise managing lands for their habitat value. With a portfolio of more than 61 fee-title properties, in addition to approximately 15 conservation easements, NCLC has completed more fee acquisitions in Oregon than any other local land trust, ranking it alongside The Nature Conservancy and The Trust for Public Lands for statewide conservation impact.
What also makes NCLC such a welcoming instrument in Oregon’s coastal conservancy is its Core Values of Seeking Common Ground, Integrity, Connectivity, and Joy. For example, they strive to learn about and embrace their community’s rich cultural diversity. They are reliable, inclusive, dependable, transparent, and honest in their intentions, actions, and communications. They seek to be continually informed and educated by the local coastal community and the scientific community to guide their decision-making. They recognize the interconnectedness of all life on Mother Earth, and they take delight in their work, enjoy experiencing the natural world, and seek opportunities to share it with others.
