Escape to a Caribbean paradise in Ochos Rios at the timelessly elegant Jamaica Inn.

The Setting

Long time Ocho Rios resident and birther of James Bond, Ian Fleming, wrote “You Only Live Twice.” Naturally, he must have been taking in Jamaican locale where tropical green mountains meet sparkling blue seas. We’d gladly spend two lifetimes at the romantic Jamaica Inn.

Situated on eight acres just east of Ocho Rios is the resort lending breathtaking views along the crescent shaped beach on champagne colored sand. You’d think being consistently named one of the top luxury hotels in Jamaica since the 50’s would be enough of a feather in the cap, but no, Jamaica Inn constantly strives to make sure you receive the best local experience with minimal environmental impact.

Acknowledged by the Green Globe for its sustainable management and practices, Jamaica Inn is committed to the preservation of the local marine ecosystem. Efforts include managing seaweed debris on surrounding beaches, rebuilding coral reefs, and monitoring and protecting nesting Hawksbill turtles via the Oracabessa Bay Turtle Project.

Sleep and Sanctuary

Jamaica Inn takes the most pride in its stunning accommodations. Expect a polished aesthetic adorned in crisp whites and Wedgewood blue, subtle tropical elements throughout, dark wood furniture and traditional antique silhouettes consistent with the Inn’s mid-century beginnings.

Find beautiful ocean views from all 48 suites and cottages set against a backdrop of green grass and vibrant flowers. There are no TVs, radios or clocks furnished in the rooms, as not to disturb you from the magnificent seaview. You will, however, still find some modern amenities such as air conditioning and complimentary wifi.

Each suite also boasts a writing desk should you aim to follow Ian Fleming’s footsteps. The Jamaica suites feature their own furnished balcony or spacious verandah overlooking the hotel’s private beach or the Caribbean Sea. The more modern feeling Cottages each have private access steps into the ocean as well as private infinity pools. No wonder Marilyn Monroe chose to stay here for her honeymoon.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

Dining should be a sensory experience and at Jamaica Inn’s open-air restaurant, all your senses will be thanking you. Every one of Chef Maurice Henry’s locally sourced and delectable creations comes with a double helping of spectacular views and ocean breezes. Choose from an array of traditional favorites and local delights for breakfast, refuel your energy with a freshly made casual meal for lunch, or have a little fun with Jamaican rum and hors d’oeuvres after a day of adventures.

Kick back on the terrace and enjoy changing daily menus (inspired by Chef Maurice’s regular trips to the nearby farmer’s market) under the starry Caribbean sky, surrounded by live reggae music. Ah, island style at its finest.

Those hankering for a bite while embracing the Inn’s romantic geography can choose to feast in the convenience of your private verandah, on the soft sands of the beach or al fresco on the restaurant’s patio. While most of the menu contains seafood, they do have several vegetarian options and are always happy to accommodate any special dietary requests during your stay.

The Art of De-stressing

Relax and recover in the hug of nature with a signature spa treatment from The Ocean Spa at Jamaica Inn. This tranquil outdoor spa is nestled within the cliffs of Cutlass Bay and features treatments drawn from local plants, sourced from local organic farmers and wild-gathered by environmentally sustainable methods.

Try the Seaweed Body Mask, a full body seaweed mask that improves overall circulatory stimulation, encourages elimination of toxins, and softens and smoothes the skin, topped with a massage utilizing seaweed body cream. Then, enjoy your new found bliss as you sip an iced lemongrass tea while listening to the calming sounds of ocean waves.

Don’t listen to those who claim breaking a sweat on vacation is impossible either, the Ocean Spa at Jamaica Inn offers circuit training, personal training, private yoga instruction and many more fitness classes throughout the week year round.

Deluxe and Premier Verandah Suites, located on the water or right on the beach, feature a living-room style verandah where you have direct access to the hotel-owned private beach or start a game of croquet on the lawn. Apart from the same amenities, the Cowdray Suite comes with an extra-large verandah, as well as a separate dressing room from the large bedroom. Near the West end of the resort, the White Suite offers extreme privacy with a large bedroom, sitting area, and an oceanfront sundeck next to a private pool.

The Blue Cottage is in the center of the resort and has a luxurious bedroom within steps from the beach. The Jamaica Inn Cottages are available with both one- and two-bedroom, consist of the same amenities plus a bar area in the living room, private entrance to the sea and a private infinity plunge pool in each accommodation. Clearwater Villa, despite the name, consists of 2 separate cottages each with 3 bedrooms. Featuring a private swimming pool and an exclusive walkway to the sea, you are guaranteed with ultimate privacy.

Beach Bungalows

Nestled within a secluded cove on the eastern end of the resort, the beach bungalows are one-bedroom accommodations featuring their own living room, bathroom and outdoor verandah. The magnificent 2,000 sq ft White Suite is perched on its own peninsula with a large bedroom, sitting area and expansive private grounds, private pool, and oceanfront deck with sweeping views of the Caribbean.
