Charity MIssion

Provide the Community of La Playa and its adjacent neighbors tools, opportunities and services to improve their quality of life. 

 

Why is it important?

La Playa is a small fishing village located in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Despite the increased popularity of the area, many residents and close neighbors still struggle in difficult living conditions and some families are especially vulnerable. La Playa Centro Comunitario opened its doors in 2015 with the idea of creating a special place where kids in the community could explore and live new experiences through art in all its forms. Soon after, they expanded their scope and diversified their activities to better respond to the increasing needs of the local community. 

How do they do it?

The Centro Comunitario offers year-round transformative programs and activities to kids and residents of all ages and interests in a fun and safe environment. Their main focus relies on the three core pillars: 

  • Health & Wellness - Nutrition workshops, exercise routines, and various group activities are offered to improve and maintain wellness of body and soul. They partner with medical professionals who can provides free consultation, treatment, and medication to vulnerable residents in times of needs. Hundreds of nutritious meals are prepared weekly in the Community Kitchen by local mothers. In addition to preparing meals for their family, they prepare and deliver extra portions to the most vulnerable residents in the community.
  • Sustainability - through their Learning Garden, kids and adults gain a better understanding of ecosystems, food origins, and knowledge of plants’ life cycles. They also learn practical horticulture skills that last a lifetime. 
  • Art & Creativity - Activities, classes, and special events are organized to give kids and residents of all ages the opportunity to experiment, discover and express their creativity through various art forms including painting, drawing, ceramic, embroidery, music, dance, etc.
  • Always adapting to the evolving needs of the community, the Centro Comunitario also focuses on resiliency, empowerment, and practical skills development

You can assist with meal preparation in their community kitchen, assist with any painting, fixing or cleaning that needs to be done, help with garden maintenance, provide workshops, or organize activities with the kids.
