Charity Mission

To empower people in San Luis Obispo County to make positive change by providing food, shelter, and supportive services.

Why is it important?

Since its inception in 2001, The El Camino Homeless Organization Shelter has been a critical asset to San Luis Obispo County, operating campuses in both Atascadero and Paso Robles, they provide services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. By offering safe shelter, nutritious meals, and comprehensive support programs, ECHO addresses immediate needs while also facilitating long-term stability through case management and housing assistance. Their aim is not only to improve the quality of life for those in crisis but also strengthen the broader community by reducing the social and economic impacts of homelessness. ECHO’s efforts help foster a more inclusive and compassionate community, promoting social equity and well-being across the county.

So far in 2024, ECHO has helped 125 (with this figure sure to multiply) individuals and families find stable housing.

How do they do it?

The ECHO Shelter empowers individuals and families in San Luis Obispo County by addressing both immediate needs and long-term goals. By providing safe and reliable shelter, ECHO ensures that those experiencing homelessness have a secure place to stay. Alongside shelter, the organization offers over 100 individuals daily nutritious meals, addressing a fundamental need and alleviating food insecurity. ECHO’s supportive services promote self-sufficiency, including case management, job readiness programs, and housing assistance, which help individuals transition from crisis to stability. These services empower clients by equipping them with the skills and resources necessary to achieve lasting positive change, fostering resilience and independence within the community.

The spirit of volunteerism is thriving at ECHO Shelter, as community members continue to come together to provide all the necessary services at both of our ECHO Campuses. You can witness this inspiring spirit by scheduling a tour of one of the campuses, getting your questions answered, and meeting the dedicated staff who are committed to serving the community.
Join one of their incredible meal teams that provides and serves a nourishing meal at each of our ECHO locations 365 days a year. To sign up to be a Meal Provider, you can contact the incredible Volunteer Coordinators at the campus you would like to support.
Join the Meal Train and drop off a meal when the shelter is short-handed. Check out the open dates that need to be filled out each month and the guidelines for dropoff.
