The Boston Rescue Mission has succeeded in positively transforming the lives of men and women in their community since 1899.

The MISSION of the Boston Rescue Mission (BRM) is to transform and empower individuals experiencing poverty, homlessness or at-risk of becoming homeless to become healthier and more self-sufficient.

Why is it important?

Since its founding in 1899, the Boston Rescue Mission has grown to be an undeniable force for good, offering an emergency overnight shelter that accommodates up to 1500 men and women a year, with healthy meals and bath and shower facilities. They also provide sober living and life growth shelter communities for men in recovery transitioning from homelessness to independent living.

In greater detail, the BRM offers more than just resources to prevent and end homelessness. They support the recovery, health, faith and independence of those with a history of substance abuse incarceration and homelessness while raising awareness about the root causes of each problem. Most important, each guest and resident will always be treated with the highest level of respect and integrity.

How do they do it?

The BRM aims to prevent homelessness by addressing the root causes through programs designed to direct these issues directly. The Mission does this by providing an outpatient counseling center, sober living and life growth shelter communities, a nutritious food pantry and providing job training opportunities.

The Mission offers voluntary spiritual development opportunities for program members through Bible studies, church fellowship, mentoring, outreach, prayer meetings, and other scheduled events.

BRM’s Safe Haven is a 10-room short-term transitional housing program for veterans with current substance abuse and mental health issues. The Safe Haven program targets chronically homeless veterans who have had difficulty with traditional housing programs.

The Boston Rescue Mission In-House Meal Program serves more than 130,000 meals each year. These include breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily to residents and breakfast and dinner daily to guests in their Safe and Healthy and Emergency Overflow Shelter programs.
