ABOUT
The Setting
Nestled between world-renowned Carmel-by-the-Sea and postcard-come-to-life Big Sur is Carmel Valley Wine Country. A peaceful respite where you will find the perfect climate, rustic charm, fabulous wine and the Bernardus Lodge & Spa tucked into 28 acres of rolling hills and gardens. The serene character of the lodge boasts authentic wine country retreat. In contrast, the list of accolades boasts Conde Nast “#1 resort in Northern California” and Wine Spectator’s “Best Of Excellence” kind of praises. Wine tasting won’t be the only item on your ”to-do,” with many state and regional parks nearby, great hiking and biking may also highlight itineraries.
Nearby Carmel-by-the-Sea has inspired artists, sparked romances, and attracted celebrities for decades. Rated a top-10 destination in the U.S. year after year, Carmel-by-the-Sea is a unique, European-style village nestled above a picturesque white-sand beach. And as for wine, Carmel Valley Village is a short five-minute drive away and home to over 20 tasting rooms, including our own Bernardus Winery. Last bit of praise here, as a Kind Hotel, they are committed to reducing their overall carbon footprint while promoting sustainable choices and alternatives while inspiring guests to go Green.
Sleep and Sanctuary
A collection of 73 premium and luxury-style guest rooms, suites and villas inspired by old-world European elegance blended with Carmel Valley's new-world rustic style await your refuge. Pet-friendly Premium guest rooms awaken your artistic senses with local artwork from Patricia Qualls, eclectic taste and views of the Santa Lucia Mountains, vineyard and bocce lawn. Luxury guest rooms are carefully designed to integrate the beauty of the resort’s natural surroundings. The twelve suites fuse wine country estate with Carmel sensibilities; each with an extra powder room, wet bar, two fireplaces and a sleeper sofa. All suites include a terrace or balcony with a dining table, lounge chairs and either a fireplace or fire pit. The eight villas and two-bedroom villas pack that extra punch with an additional private patio off of the master bath with an outdoor rain shower. All rooms include a two-person soaking tub, plush bathrobes, fireplaces, dining tables, plus lavish king-size feather beds draped in Italian linens. Relax. Reconnect. Retreat.
Eat. Pray. Eat.
A stay at Bernardus Lodge offers you a seat at Carmel Valley’s most sought after dining table in the much-lauded Lucia Restaurant & Bar. Here you’ll experience the region’s bounty in fine culinary fashion. With extensive organic herb and vegetable gardens, vineyards and fruit trees, the 28-acre estate produce some of the freshest produce in Carmel Valley, California. If it grows together, it goes together – finds seasonal ingredients inspiring the culinary team's cuisine alongside Bernardus’ own estate-produced wine.
