Making our world greener and healthier
The Arbor Day Foundation’s MISSION is to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. They are creating worldwide recognition around the use of trees as a solution in addressing global issues including clean air and water, reforestation, habitat, and addressing hunger, poverty, and climate change.
Why is it important?
Our forests. They provide wildlife habitat, natural beauty and recreational opportunities. They filter our air and our water. They are vital to life as we know it. And they need our help. Thousands of intense fires, insect infestations, disease, and severe weather have all taken their toll on forests around the nation, leaving an urgent need to replant. When it comes to our tropical rain forests, they cover just 2% of the earth’s surface, and yet provide habitat and food for nearly half of all known living species. It's easy to see why protecting them is so important.
How do they do it?
WIth the help of over 1 million members, the Arbor Day Foundation has been able to plant trees wherever they're needed most. From a local park to a forest around the world, they have inspired people to work together to make our world cleaner, greener, and healthier.
Progress so far?
Since its beginnings in 1972, they’ve planted and distributed more than 250 million trees. Meaning they've been able to line streets, campuses, farms, woods and forests with new trees.
