Changing the world through literacy
The MISSION of Alfalit is to eradicate human suffering caused by illiteracy by teaching students how to read, write, and do basic math.
Why is it important?
According to recent studies, the worldwide illiteracy rate hasn't changed in the last 10 years. Improved literacy can lead to economic growth, reduce poverty, crime, increase civic engagement, and contribute to personal benefits like increased self-esteem and confidence. Increased literacy in developing countries can dramatically and positively affect living environments, as well improve emotional well-being for all.
How do they do it?
A faith-based non-profit, Alfalit offers programs in literacy, basic education, early childhood development, health and nutrition, job and skills training to the poorest 24 countries throughout Africa, Latin America, Europe, and the United States. By providing compassionate high-quality and cost-effective education methods, Alfalit has taught over 8 million people to read and write worldwide since 1961.
