Create unique and engaging experiences that connect people to the Oregon Coast and inspire ocean conservation.

Why is it important?

The Oregon Coast Aquarium’s freshly renovated Sandy Coast and Rocky Coast galleries are open! With new tanks, more animals, and major updates, Aquarium visitors can get closer to the coast than ever before.  The galleries include long-time favorites and new additions alike; Sandy Coast boasts a new eelgrass bed and offshore sands habitat, while Rocky Coast features a novel octopus cove.  The pièce de resistance is the massively expanded Rocky Coast touchpool, where visitors enjoy volunteer-led, hands-on encounters with sea slugs, urchins, anemones, and other tidepool animals.

How do they do it?

The Oregon Coast Aquarium offers engaging experiences by immersing visitors in the diverse marine environments of the Oregon Coast, fostering a deep connection to the ocean and inspiring conservation efforts. Through interactive exhibits, such as touch pools where guests can handle starfish and anemones, and the immersive "Passages of the Deep" tunnel that allows visitors to walk beneath swirling schools of fish and sharks, the aquarium creates a captivating and educational atmosphere. Programs like behind-the-scenes tours, animal encounters, and conservation-focused presentations further enhance understanding and appreciation of marine life. By showcasing the intricate beauty and ecological importance of local marine ecosystems, the aquarium motivates visitors to support and participate in ocean conservation initiatives.

The Aquarium also relies on a network of wildlife agencies whose volunteers, staff, and medical professionals provide a safety net for the ocean/s most vulnerable species. Working with organizations across the country, the Aquarium provides critical care to sick or injured sea turtles, aquatic mammals, and other endangered marine animals.

How you can #TravelKindly:

  • The Aquarium is home to more than 15,000 invertebrates, fishes, birds and marine mammals. You can help provide the best care possible by symbolically adopting an animal for one year.
  • Aquarium volunteers channel their enthusiasm for marine science by sharing knowledge of animals and habitats with our guests and by assisting staff with food preparation, observation, record keeping and exhibit upkeep. A full list of ways to support the aquarium can be found here.
  • You can help remove harmful debris from Oregon’s shores and help protect marine ecosystems by volunteering with a SOLVE Beach Cleanup.
  • Make a difference by considering sustainable lifestyle tips that support our oceans.
