Alianza Cero Basura (ACB) of Todos Santos and Pescadero is a diverse and inclusive network that works across sectors to promote collaboration, influence policy, and catalyze transformation in the waste management systems of Todos Santos and Pescadero. Ultimately, the goal is to have a united community that produces less waste, takes responsibility for the waste it does produce, and supports a circular economy in which waste is repurposed by vibrant local businesses. Alianza Cero Basura is working to achieve its mission through five program pillars including Community Engagement, School Engagement, Waste Separation, Waste Reduction and Organic Waste Management. It has already achieved several important milestones including establishing the first community-led organic waste farm in the state, rolling out a program to install water filtration systems and waste separation bins in all public schools in the community with supporting workshops, establishing compost systems and gardens at schools, establishing strong waste separation practices at leading businesses and thereby diverting tons of waste from the landfill, establishing the first collection center in the community for all colors of glass, establishing a series of water bottle refill stations across the town to reduce the purchase of single use plastic water bottles, organizing 15 local businesses across all areas of the community to Adopt-A-Spot and maintain the cleanliness of a public area on an ongoing basis, and creating the Waste Wise Business All Stars Directory in which local businesses self-assess their waste management practices so that visitors can best determine where to spend their funds.
