When America’s first airport yoga room opened in 2012 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Airport Director John L. Martin, a longtime yoga practitioner, told KNTV's Bob Redell that the idea came from a passenger's suggestion. As Martin continued, "When we began to remodel Terminal 2, one of our goals was not just to bring the glamour back to air travel, but to also make the entire experience less stressful and more enjoyable.” Personally, after visiting SFO’s yoga room for the first time, I felt like someone had looked at my travel wishlist. Needless to say, I was thrilled, and have increasingly been excited as more airport yoga rooms have opened across the U.S.

Being kinder to yourself while in transit, and creating calm, can alleviate some of the risk factors of traveling, which can include, physical and mental tension, racing thoughts, and racing to catch a flight.
