Unparalleled tropical luxury meets eco-friendly design on Thailand’s unspoiled Koh Kood Island

The Setting

When stepping off the speedboat that brings you to Soneva Kiri on Koh Kood, Thailand’s 4th largest, but least populated island, be sure to kick off your shoes, savor the talcum powdery sand and clear your mind. That is, after all,  Soneva Kiri’s mantra, “no news, no shoes.” To say this tropical resort is Kind paradise would be an understatement. Soneva has been celebrating 20 sustainable years while mitigating their carbon footprint with a target of 100 percent renewable energy by 2021. They also boast a 100 percent self-sufficient water supply, an art program using recycled waste glass materials, an on-site garden nurtured with compost created from the resort’s food waste supplying all the produce, and their own Soneva Foundation supports the development of projects that have a positive environmental, social, and economic impact. Kind heaven is more like it.

Sleep and Sanctuary

Soneva Kiri’s dwellings are spaced throughout the property in 35 unique villas, some mere steps from powdery sand beach or perched for breathtaking views. Let’s be honest, these aren’t so much villas as they are sprawling masterpieces of sustainable design. Ranging from one-bedroom charmers to six-bedroom reserves, each offers a large private pool, immaculate outdoor bathrooms with spa tubs, beds with billowing mosquito nets, and ample deck space for yoga. Most importantly, each villa is constructed from sustainable woods. Soneva even goes as far as to visit suppliers to know first-hand how they are planted and harvested.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

One-of-a-kind dining experiences will become routine on your stay at Soneva Kiri and local is their core value, only growing their own produce and buying from local farmers and fishermen. Your culinary highlight will be Benz’s. Helmed by respected chef Khun Benz, Benz's is a lantern-lit traditional Thai restaurant on stilts reached via a speedboat through the mangroves. There’s also The View, a stunning dinner-only outdoor space offering modern European fine dining with an Asian twist. The Dining Room, perched up high on the rocky cliffs and So Spirited, a poolside outpost with stunning sea views, are your enviable all-day-dining spots. Toss in a wine cellar boasting mostly organic wines, an ice cream parlor and a glass vault offering charcuterie and cheeses from around the world for good measure. Private destination and in-villa dining (treepod dining is a must, too) are available to you and all dietary restrictions or requirements can easily be accommodated.

  • Benz’s - Savor traditional Thai (dinner only) at this “no-menu” concept offering a vast selection of dishes inspired by ingredients grown on Koh Kood and by the local sea’s bounty.
  • The View - is only open for dinner and offers modern Europen fine dining with an Asian twist amid spectacular vistas.
  • The Dining Room - This handsome restaurant perched on the rocky cliffs is open for breakfast and dinner and features weekly Asian street food and Mediterranean buffets. Start your day with organic mushrooms on toast or a morning salad with papaya, fig, avocado and coconut milk.
  • So Spirited - Perched on a cliff poolside, you’ll find tapas and libations for lunch and dinner with vistas for days. Savor sweet juices from local Thai fruits, snack on late-afternoon bites like wild mushroom croquettes, and enjoy a wide range of cocktails and mocktails to cool off after a day in the sun.
The Art of De-stressing

Embark on a sensory journey without having to leave the resort at Six Senses Spa. Indulge in an array of locally-inspired treatments like Thai herbal baths and mud massages, all using traditional herbs and oils. The spa is also known for its wellness screenings, which is a non-invasive reading of your body’s composition and biomarkers.

Free mind, body and soul with private Hatha yoga sessions focusing on gentle movement and effortless flow. You’ll be reaping all the benefits of stress-free living with improved flexibility and a powerful body from this practice as you’re also guided through meditative breathing practices. Om

What could be more relaxing than a day out on the surrounding pristine waters? Soneva Kiri offers a range of complimentary non-motorized water sports including kayaking, paddleboarding, and hobie cats.

For the pint-sized Kind Travelers, Soneva offers a truly unique experience in their giant bamboo Eco Den. Suspended in the treetops, the den is a space dedicated to learning, excitement and meaningful experiences for kids five and up.

Feast together around the outdoor dining table with family or newly made friends. All this with views that will take your breath away. The four-bedroom Bayview Pool Reserve offers you the same luxuries i.e. outdoor shower and steam room, private gym, children’s treehouse, etc with the added bonus of breathtaking bay views and your own personal wine cellar.

The five-bedroom Sunset Ocean View Pool Reserve floats over the most spectacular hillside stretch. Private and protected, this luxurious playground shelters you atop jungle slopes. Wake up in the sea-facing master bedroom or the whimsically-inspired treehouse. Bathe and shower by starlight in garden bathrooms, a contained rainforest for sensuality and serenity. Lounge on terraces, and decks amidst the jungle peaks. While the five-bedroom Bayview Pool Reserve takes your breath away with its bay views, naturally.

The sprawling castle in the sand, otherwise known as the five-bedroom Beach Pool Reserve, towers over the sea and is embraced by jungle. The master bedroom and three additional bedrooms all feature outdoor bathrooms so you can soak in the starlight or shower in the sun’s rays. The fifth bedroom is a treehouse with bunk beds and a slide into the swimming pool. Treat your body like a temple with your personal gym overlooking the blue or the private spa deck, perfect for meditative and healing treatments.

Last but certainly not least, the six-bedroom Ocean View Pool Reserve is hidden in the privacy of the trees, so you can snuggle in the sea-facing master bedroom or bathe and shower by starlight in open-air bathrooms. Find your spot in this sustainable escape that stretches over the hilltops. Other luxuries include the gargantuan swimming pool with its own water slide, the gym, steam room, game room, outdoor dining table or the oversized cushions of an enormous day bed overlooking the water.
