Think you know Los Cabos? Think again. Private artist's haven, Hotel El Ganzo, is Baja like you’ve never experienced before.

The Setting

Welcome to Hotel El Ganzo, Los Cabos: a hip and homey hideaway that redefines luxury by merging sustainability, creativity, diversity, and artistry all into one gorgeous affair. We mean it when we say this relaxing beaut’ is one of a kind – particularly, for its major emphasis placed on the arts. Its tagline says it all: “Hotel El Ganzo avoids the ordinary. Spa treatments and gourmet cuisine rejuvenate the body, while music and art feed the soul." Even the painting-like setting alone could be considered artwork in itself. Protected by the base of Puerto Los Cabos Marina and set against the backdrop of the Sea of Cortez, the property boasts summery, sunshine-y weather 340 days a year (on average), paired with temperate, turquoise waters that only the Baja can bring. And yet, the setting continues to impress. Using El Ganzo’s complimentary bikes, be sure to explore the surrounding area – for the freshwater lagoon of Estero San José lies a mere 1.7 miles away, and at 7.5 miles, you’ll hit the true Pacific Coast at Playa Acapulquito Beach. Another practical bonus? El Ganzo is less than 20 minutes from San Jose International Airport...talk about convenience.

Sleep and Sanctuary

The stylishly simple decor at El Ganzo turns guestrooms into sanctuaries graced with casual beach vibes. Sliding glass doors open to private terraces which welcome ocean views and natural light to every room. Furnishings are custom created (using local materials, by local artisans) and ultra-comfy beds are all prepped for you to snooze – even paired with wooden headboards decorated with messages of love (d’aww!). Further amenities include AC and well-stocked mini-bars, as well as tech perks like comped WiFi, HD smart TV’s, and even iPads for accessing the hotel’s directory. Each bathroom includes a shower/bath combo and two sinks, plus full-size organic bath products made by the El Ganzo’s own brand. The “go green” goal continues with a Don’t Wash My Towel Program, augmenting property features like recycling and on-site composting, eco-friendly cleaning products, and a solar energy program giving this place some serious power.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

The hotel’s dining repertoire is a full-on, farm-fresh fiesta. Savor ingredients sourced from any of three local venues: Huerta Los Tamarindos, a nearby organic farm; the San Jose Farmer’s market; and best of all, the hotel’s very own on-site herb garden (clearly, if sustainability is your thing, you’ve come to the right place). Top this off with the fact that all dietary specifications – vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and organic – are offered in all restaurants as well as in rooms. I do believe we’ve struck Kind-dining heaven. The international Wine Cellar ain’t too bad a perk, either.

  • Ganzo Downstairs – El Ganzo’s main restaurant serves guests for all meals of the day, partying hardest in the evening as the sun goes down and Bar opens up. Start your day with delectable Mexican chilaquiles, followed by creative entreeés that put a spin on traditional faves. For instance, would you normally expect fresh mangos as the base for your a savory dinner plate? We didn’t think so; but your taste buds will thank you for the innovation.
  • Gachoo Sushi Bar – This lunch and snack-time haunt specializes in raw cuisine. While heavily seafood centric (we’re talking about a sushi bar, after all), plant-based options are certainly available if you specify the request. Don’t miss out on the veggie tempura or ceviche: Both perfect afternoon pick-me-ups.
  • Ganzo de Playa – Fun in the sun should not be interrupted due to appetite – which is where Ganzo de Playa comes in. The hotel’s beach club serves its own unique menu (in addition to ample beach activities), featuring salads, Baja tacos, and much more to tickle your fancy. Available for lunch and snacks as well.
  • The Container – Dining continues near the hotel as well. A short bike ride away  – but still within the Puerto Los Cabos property – sits this marina-side restaurant, serving local favorites with a twist. Open for all meals (including the happiest of hours), all set to a view that’s pretty dang hard to beat.

If you’re feeling a lazy dining day, we don’t blame you; simply contact the front desk to enjoy room service from Downstairs.

The Art of De-stressing

Workout and/or chillout at Hotel El Ganzo’s spa. Its fitness center hosts a 24 hour gym, where personal trainers are available, in addition to private yoga and pilates classes. Unique options include access to a lifestyle nutritional coach, transformational breath workshops, as well as personal fitness equipment back in your guestroom if you prefer to sweat privately (we understand, sometimes those Jazzercise moves are best performed in peace). The relaxation retreat of El Ganzo’s spa features five treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy pool, and a bubbling hot therapeutic Jacuzzi as well. Pamper yourself with any variety of spa treatments: massages, body work, facials, waxing, makeup, hair and nail care, and more – all using eco-friendly and organic products (plus aromatherapy if you choose). Our recommendation?  Try out the traditional Mezcal Ritual: “A detoxifying experience that fosters relaxation and self-awareness, with an agave scrub, mezcal lotion massage, and desert clay purification process.”

The most notable feature of this hotel, however, has to be its heart for art. El Ganzo’s Artists in Residence Program entails visiting creatives – of both the musical and visual variety – being hosted at the hotel, in exchange for leaving a bit of mastery behind. This therefore entails a constant evolution of art displays on property, as well as live musical performances whenever musicians stop in. Cooler still, musical guests are invited to record at El Ganzo’s Underground Recording Studio, in effect truly leaving their mark on the place. For the rest of us non-artistical guests, however, have no fear: Your to-do’s still abound. Wade in the glass-encased rooftop infiniti pool (you can only imagine the view) paired with yet another hot-tub Jacuzzi, or head on down to the beach club, Ganzo de Playa, for any number of ocean activities. Be sure to also go beyond the hotel and explore the rest of Puerto Los Cabos Marina’s enclosure, then even further to the surrounding area, depending on how much time you have to explore. Los Cabos is yours!

Standard-size rooms offer Jacuzzi, Terrace, Balcony, and Ocean View options (though just to be clear, all guestrooms at El Ganzo boast ocean views). These suites constitute the hotel’s first three floors, differentiated most notably by the fact that Jacuzzi rooms have – drumroll place – an outdoor Jacuzzi.

Cuddle up in king-sized canopy beds in the Master Suites, which all feature a living room separate from the bedrooms. Roomier Large Suites (offered in one- and two-bedroom options) are nearly four times the size of standard rooms, and not only feature a separate living room, but also grand salon, multiple smart TV’s, and patio lounge beds on the terrace. Sprawling Two-bedroom Large Suites also include an indoor Jacuzzi, plus wide sectional couch in the living room and snazzy tilework ‘round the bath.

Special Rooms

And yet your options grow larger: Literally. Very Large Suites also come in one and two-bedroom options, which up the ante with private gyms, as well as indoor/outdoor Jacuzzis. Ultimate indulgence can be found in the Two-Bedroom version specifically, which not only adds space (making this the hotel’s roomiest option). Obviously.
