Take a trip back in time to a retro, relaxing stay in Miami Beach at COMO Metropolitan.

The Setting

Jay Gatsby meets James Bond at the COMO Metropolitan, where modern sophistication is combined with 1930s’ glam. A stately oasis in the Art Deco District, the COMO Metropolitan is just steps from the beach, and characterized by serenity co-existing with old-fashioned flair. The breezy, pristine white lobby is a welcoming refuge from sizzling South Beach, while the hotel’s mission is to heal (mind, body, and soul). The resort even has its own award-winning holistic brand, COMO Shambhala, which only further enhances the total body kindness to all aspects of your stay. If this isn’t heaven on earth, it’s the next best thing.

Sleep and Sanctuary

Nostalgia doesn’t have to be cheesy, as proven by the 74 guestrooms of this high-end resort, where retro and luxury converge. Italian designer Paola Navone preserved the hotel’s Art Deco heritage and contrasted it with peppermint green and dusky grey with surfaces of cool white marble and shining chrome. Your sanctuary is thoughtfully designed. It’s where the old-school sophistication of the Art Deco District intersects with the affluence of a South Beach luxury hotel, with rooms that range from picturesque balcony to waterfront-pampered suite. Additionally, children under 11 are permitted to stay at no additional cost, within maximum room occupancy (sharing existing bedding). Welcome to Cloud 9.

Eat. Pray. Eat.

Hotel food has never tasted so good, and simultaneously been so good for you. Guests are offered two menus at any on-site locale, including the “COMO Shambhala Cuisine.” These light, healthy options are predominantly organic, plus rich in living enzymes and nourishing vitamins and minerals (and half of the options are vegan). But wait, there’s more! All resort food is locally sourced. Menu highlights at the COMO Metorpolitan include the zucchini and walnut flatbread, for something more savory, and cashew-nut milk pineapple sundae for something more sweet.

  • Traymore RestaurantNostalgia and modernism continue to converge at the Metropolitan with Traymore, which was the original name of the hotel in 1939. Not only does it invoke history, but it is also one of the most acclaimed restaurants in South Florida. Meals at the Traymore are a full immersive experience of the senses, showing off the cuisine of the region. The Wild Arugula and Florida Citrus Salad, for example, features fresh Florida fruit, while the snapper is caught right offshore from sustainable local fisheries. You won’t be left wanting.
  • Traymore Bar Traymore’s vast dining area is sophisticated, yet polished (just like the rest of the hotel), and the Traymore Bar is no exception. While warm, bronze hues contrast the airier restaurant, the same, old-time spirit runs through the entire place. It has all the feelings of your neighborhood Cheers bar but with contemporary décor and bites and drinks that are clearly next level. Homage to this is the bar’s Gin Club, featuring more than 40 artisanal gin brands. How many trips back to the COMO Metropolitan will it take to try them all?
  • Poolside Resturant and Bar – Worry no more about waiting 15 minutes before you get into the pool after food and drinks at the Metropolitan’s Poolside Restaurant and Bar. Enjoy cabana “crudos” (Italian-inspired, light raw snacks) from 11am-5pm daily while relaxing by the pristine pool. Menus similarly focus on local Miami fare, as well as feature American and Mediterranean favorites. Eating by the pool now feels and tastes good!

Menus vary for room service, but full service is offered from 7am to midnight, with a smaller late-night menu offered when those middle-of-the-night munchies hit.

The Art of De-stressing

If the rooms, restaurants, and spa are so calming, it’s only appropriate that fitness at the COMO Metropolitan would be also. Yoga, in particular, takes center stage (or center mat). Personal yogi instruction is available whenever you please, and group classes are offered three days a week (Wed, Fri, Sat). You may also delve into privately led mediation, or a Pranayama session (breathe in, breathe out), a practice that betters your breathing.  And even more, the state-of-the art gym and steam room are both open around the clock. Afterward, cool down in one of a couple pools, including one rooftop hydrotherapy pool with ocean view beds and a ground-floor pool with easy beach access. Now that’s our kind of destressing.

Did you think it couldn’t get any better? Retreat into tranquility at the resort’s holistic spa, called COMO Shambhala Urban Escape. The inside atmosphere is pure and clean, with touches of nature: a refreshing Feng Shui that reflects your coming cleanse. The results-driven therapies are Asian-inspired, and include facials, massages, and body and beauty care. A fresh juice bar is situated next door for your spa “dessert.” Also, a unique addition to COMO’s wellness repertoire is Intuitive Counseling, led by Susan King (and endorsed by Oprah Winfrey and other celebrities alike). She works to provide guests with increased clarity, offering new perspectives on our past, present, and future lives. It is a refreshing, visualizing process aimed at total rebalancing of self. How can you not leave the Metropolitan feeling refreshed?
